Color Impressions in Crazy Quilts or Breaking the Block. The inspiration for this series comes directly from Diana's desire to record the scene, the environment, or the experience. A photo journal is the design resource. The imagery is painted in watercolor on paper. This "mockette" is used as the reference for the design and the color palette. Fabrics are selected that best represent the image and mood. The blocks are pieced together in a crazy quilt method that Diana has developed for this series. The quilt top is assembled and machine quilted. Diana's signature style of machine quilting is dense stipple quilting using many thread colors.
Diana has taught this method for over 10 years in the U.S., Canada, Australia and Europe. This technique is used to encourage quilt artists to break their "Creative Block" when they work through the lessons. Diana continues to teach and do commissions, currently teaching the Painted Art Quilts. Diana's work is seen in many publications, which are listed on the Books page.
